Sherlock: A Study in Pink

Sherlock Holmes was created by Arthur Conan Doyle more than a hundred years ago, he has turned out to be one of the most popular fictional characters ever.

Due to the popularity of the character of Sherlock Holmes, there are many schools of thought regarding the genre of the character’s depictions.

Some argue that the character lies in the realm of fantasy and science fiction short stories, novels and graphic novels. Others argue that he lies in the realm of mystery and detective fiction.

Most recently a new genre has been added to the list besides science fiction stories.

Sherlock Holmes has now been officially made part of the Manga genre as well!

The recently released graphic novel ‘Sherlock: A Study in Pink’ depicts Sherlock in Japanese manga style.

It is part of a series of graphic novels based on the BBC series ‘Sherlock’ episodes.

The novel has been written by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss. Steven is a well-known Scottish writer and producer who is working on the ‘Sherlock’ and ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. (source: wikipedia)

Mark Gatiss is a well-known English novelist and actor, he is also working on the ‘Sherlock’ and ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. He is well-known for his TV adaptations of famous science fiction and fantasy books including ‘The First Men in the Moon’. (source: wikipedia)

Sherlock Holmes manga followed by the ‘Sherlock’ TV series has become an instant success. Fans like myself get to see out beloved character being brought alive in the 21st century.

Originally set during the Victorian era, Sherlock has now come to modern London. The idea that he can live and work in modern-day times and solve mysterious crime makes the stories even more interesting.
