Jacob Kowalski is the most interesting character in ‘Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them’. His character is really innocent and lovable.
Some critics call him a sad clown; which is a bit harsh.
Jacob, played by Dan Fogler, is an innocent non-magic from 1926 New York, who accidentally gets caught up in the magical world because he runs into Newt Scamander while on his way to the bank. He wants to open a bakery for which he requires a loan from the bank.
Newt is a British wizard who is travelling to New York to find and study rare magical creatures. He also has a collection of similar beasts his magical suitcase.
Some of the creatures escape from his suitcase. Jacob puts his own life at risk and helps Newt find the creatures and put them back in the suitcase.
Meanwhile New York is in chaos. Porpentina Goldstein, an ex-Auror, and her sister Queenie join forces with Jacob and Newt to bring down the perpetrator of the chaos and murderer of Henry Shaw Jr.
The Harry Potter universe has not seen someone like Jacob before. His innocence combined with his bravery is commendable.
Jacob will surely have a much larger role to play in the upcoming sequels as well.
